THE DEV – Broken Lies

THE DEV make their grand entrance with unforgettable debut single Broken Lies

Orlando based quartet THE DEV make their way onto the scene with their rock anthem Broken Lies. While this is their first single released together, THE DEV is made up of music industry experts who have shared the stage with the likes of Mastodon, Avenged Sevenfold, Five Finger Death Punch, and Rise Against, and you can feel the years of experience they share in the total harmony of the music. The lyrics are unrepentant, the dual-guitar dynamic, and the overall composition exhilarating, and it makes for an unforgettable debut.

Broken Lies is about regaining your own strength after a difficult relationship, and the overall message is that it’s totally possible to come back far stronger than you ever were. Lines like “promise anything just to please, but I won’t be the victim you seek” are deeply powerful, and this kind of defiance against the unhappiness of the past relationship are spread throughout the song. Vocalist Nikollaj’s voice is deep, strong and leaves you wanting more, while the guitar solo towards the end carries on for nearly a whole minute to ensure that Broken Lies remains just as punky and relentless as it was at the start.

It’s a fearlessly independent anthem that showcases not just the way the band members have mastered their craft, but also how much more they have left to give if they can begin on such a strong note as this. THE DEV kept me excited throughout the whole track and I look forward to finding out what they will be throwing our way next. Keep it coming!
