WaveByte x Rogue PR – Sunday Spotlight: Parson City

Introduce us to your project!

We are Parson City, a three-piece sludge metal band from Dudley, UK. Consisting of Kyle Robert’s (Guitar/Vocal) Sam Leek (Bass/Vocal) and Anthony Robert’s (Drums).

How did you guys start out?

Kyle and Sam had played in a number of bands throughout the years and started a little side project back in 2012, which is also when we wrote tracks such as Blood on the Road from our debut EP. This didn’t work out however but in 2017 they decided to give it another chance and recruited long-time friend Anthony Richards to join on drums where we worked hard on completing a set and started to play shows.

Describe your project’s sound

We take influence from a lot of bands such as Black Sabbath, Alice in Chains, Down and Corrosion of Conformity to say a few. Bass driven, groovy riffs with that touch of doom.

What influences your craft?

Everything around us, Parson City we use as a reflection of society and all its hypocrisy’s and ugliness, including our own.

What makes your project different?

We have developed a unique sound within our genre restrictions, there are very few full bands that create a sound as large as us and this is something I’ve found sets us out

When introducing people to your music, what song should I show them first? What is your quintessential track?

I’d say our latest single “Hypocrite” from our upcoming EP “The Pink One”. We’ve really honed our sound since our first EP and “Hypocrite” is a great example of that.

What has been the biggest struggle in your career so far?

Honestly, keeping motivated. It’s hard to stay positive when you get constantly ignored by promoters, we’ve had some forget they’ve even booked us, the lack of community within quite a large portion of the underground music scene. It’s exhausting at times and does make you question yourselves. But when we do have that brilliant moment it makes it all worth it.

What has been the biggest highlight in your career so far?

Probably our show with OHHMS and Boss Keloid last year, but honestly, we’ve had so many awesome shows, it’s hard to name.

How bright is the future of your band – what are the plans?

Well, we’re releasing our follow up EP at the end of the year, followed by some weekend tours in January.

When all is said and done, how would you like to be remembered?

No nonsense, riffy, meaningful music.

Thanks for taking the time to talk to us!
