Introduce us to your band!
(Chris) We are Keep Up from Syracuse, New York. Just a group of best friends living in a sweaty red van. I grew up on Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin, which brought me to modern pop-punk where I found my love for music. Ian has the heavier side listening to Memphis May Fire and Our Last Night, which influenced our writing in the studio. While DJ leans towards Taylor Swift and blink-182, he falls in love with the vocal melodies.
How did you guys start out?
(Chris) All of us have been friends since grade school but we never seriously put our talents together until now. We decided to take our time and collaborate to make the best album we could.
Describe your band’s sound
(DJ) If Drake Bell, Green Day and Avril Lavigne could produce a baby. That’s somewhat where we sit.
What influences your craft?
(Ian) Real life situations and coming of age. We have a lot of fun and it shows through our songs.
What makes your project different?
(DJ) Our live shows are where you see something different. We all can play each other’s instruments so mid-song we have the ability to change who plays what.
When introducing people to your music, what song should I show them first? What is your quintessential track?
(Ian) The tough thing about that is our music is very diverse so no two songs sound alike. We all have favourites such as “Deja Vu” for Chris and I while DJ likes “City to City”.
“Shut Ur Mouth” is our debut single for the album so that would be a great place to start to understand us.
What has been the biggest struggle in your career so far?
(Ian) Road wear and tear from tour. In one instance us getting a new transmission for our van.
What has been the biggest highlight in your career so far?
(DJ) Today, September 6th being the release of our new album “Up In Flames”. This has been a big project for us and we’re beyond excited to share this new music.
How bright is the future of your band – what are the plans?
(Chris) We’re always writing and hanging out together so we’re always thinking of the next step in our career. Hopefully more shows but there will definitely be more music.
When all is said and done, how would you like to be remembered?
(Ian) Long after we’re gone, we want to leave a legacy for people to chase their dreams and live every day like it’s your last. We have a lot of fun together and we encourage you to do the same.
Thanks for taking the time to talk to us!
