Mark Eden – Sunday Spotlight

Introduce us to your band!

My name is Mark Eden, I am a singer/songwriter/producer from Australia living in Berlin. I have 2 projects, one is my solo acoustic/rock/pop singalong band and the other is Under The Tongue a rock/electro/alternative band. I released my 4th solo album last year which was mastered by Brian Lucey (Cage the Elephant, The Kills, Depeche Mode) and I am currently working on a new album which will be a complete different direction from Things To Be which is my latest.

How did you start out?

I started out playing music when I was around 7. We had house parties at home where my dad and his band would set up in the lounge and play to all their friends, I guess that is where my love for not only music but live music started. Around 30 to 40 people crammed into the lounge dancing and singing along to old country and blues standards is super exciting as a kid.

Describe your sound

My solo music you could describe as sing-a-long , acoustic, soul rock/pop with some chanting thrown in.

What influences your craft?

Many things influence my craft. Life, love, fear, travel, artists, good food, dreams, philosophy and I am sure that I am influenced subconsciously from all of them.

What makes your project different?

They say that everything has been done before so I am sure that what I do also has. What I can say is that I developed an acoustic, folk, groove sound with chanting while I was playing live in Australia with my own slant on it. I suppose putting my own feel in my music makes it different.

When introducing people to your music, what song should I show them first? What is your quintessential track?

That would be impossible to say to be honest. I can give you a couple. Strong Enough from my second album or No Mind and Hold Onto Rain which is also from the same album. One more would be More to This Life from my new album Things To Be.

What has been the biggest struggle in your career so far?

The biggest struggle I would say has been to get my music in front of as many people as possible.

What has been the biggest highlight in your career so far?

Headlining the biggest BodyPainting Festival in the world and also play in front of the home crowd of Yothu Yindi at the prestigious Garma Festival… sorry that is 2.

How bright is the future of your band – what are the plans?

The plan is to continue writing, recording and making music videos as well as touring Europe, Australia, the UK and Asia.

When all is said and done, how would you like to be remembered?

I would like to be remembered as someone who could make you smile and help you remember how awesome you are.
