Sunday Spotlight – D.I.G.

Introduce us to your band!

We are a heavy rock trio called D.I.G from Sweden. We started playing music together in 2013 and since released one album, one EP and have a brand new single out called in the blink of an eye. The band is Björn on vocals and guitar, Fredrik on bass and Jonathan on Drums. We consider our music to be a mix of classic and modern hardrock. We take influence from so much different music and we believe this is reflected in the music that we write. Fredrik is a metal head, Björn is a music junkie and Jonathan is the meat and potato rock guy (AC/DC).

How did you guys start out?

We started playing together at Björns 30th birthday. We played a cover set with old songs from Kiss, Alice Cooper, Alice in Chains and thought “well this is fun!”. Björn had a lot of songs already written so we started to play more often and formed D.I.G, the rest is history as they say.

Describe your band’s sound

We think of our sound as a mix of old and new hardrock – the power of the riff is the foundation that we stand on and then we try to top things off with good melodies. We feel this should be a recipe for success, right?

What influences your craft?

Björn is the main songwriter and takes great inspiration from a lot of music, but the main ingredient has always been heavy riff-rock like King´s X, Alice in Chains, Black Stone Cherry and Alter Bridge. We have also found inspiration from many different bands like Porcupine Tree, Marillion.

What makes your project different?

We believe that what makes us stand out is that we don’t really follow “the formula”. A lot of bands these days think a certain type of music should sound a certain way but we don’t. We have no problems mixing things up! This is also something that we try to think about when we go out and play. We add parts to songs that are not on the record, like extended breaks, solos and jams. Music today can be so strict, let’s live it up a bit.

When introducing people to your music, what song should I show them first? What is your quintessential track?

Think is a really good tune to start with! It has heavy riff with a catchy chorus. Also, our latest single in the blink of an eye could be a great place to start.

What has been the biggest struggle in your career so far?

Like all smaller bands the struggle is always to get through the “buzz”. Rock music now is in a struggle, it’s hard to find places to play and find an audience. We try hard to grow our fanbase but it’s a struggle for sure.

What has been the biggest highlight in your career so far?

We have played some great shows at some great venues – that has been a highlight for sure! A show we did at Bombar Bar which was awesome. Recently, we went to a super cool studio and recorded two songs which was fun.

How bright is the future of your band – what are the plans?

Hopefully bright! We plan to record new music and release an album in late 2020, and in 2021 we plan to do as many live shows as possible.

When all is said and done, how would you like to be remembered?

A great trio that wrote some kick ass tunes and actually had some fans, haha!
